The Doulton OBE® Slimline 10″ Open Both Ends (OBE) is a highly efficient ceramic micro filter which provides genuine sub micron filtration of drinking water. 

Doulton® gravity filters offer 2 to 8 times the flow rate of their non-gravity fed filters.

Doulton® filters use the age-old process of micro-porous filtration used by nature coupled with modern state-of-the-art technology and the highest quality materials to produce one of the finest water filtration systems available anywhere.

At the core of the sub-micron ceramic filter is the most basic of elements: Diatomaceous Earth. This is the same substance, which artisans refine into exquisite porcelain and pottery. The microscopic pores of the ceramic filter element make it an extremely efficient filter for the reduction of particulate matter, pathogenic bacteria and fine sediment from water. Minute particulate matter will quickly plug media style filters, but the ceramics have the added benefit of being re-cleanable and re-useable.

Each filter can be cleaned many, many times before needing replacement. If using tap water, the filters will normally only need to be cleaned every 6 months. You will know when your filters need to be cleaned because the filtration rate will slow down. To clean, simply rub the filters with a scotch-brite pad under running water.

In general, the smaller the pore size of a filter and the more complicated the path the water takes through the filter medium, the more effective it is at removing particles from the water.  A ceramic has a small and complex pore structure, making it an ideal filter medium.

Doulton® drinking water filters have an accurately controlled pore structure which has an Absolute filtration rating (defined as >99.99%) of 0.9 microns (less than 1000th   of a millimetre).   Therefore, the ceramic is capable of filtering sub-micron particles and pathogenic bacteria from drinking water.

Other filter media can be put inside Doulton® ceramic drinking water candles to make them even more versatile.  For example, activated carbon can be incorporated to remove chlorine, or an ion exchange resin to remove heavy metals such as lead.

  • Long Term / Low-Cost Investment 
Doulton® ceramic drinking water filters should be cleaned in order to prolong the life of the product.  The filter can then be re-used rather than replaced, giving it a much longer life-span than many other products on the market.  On average, our filter candles will remain effective for up to 6 months (depending on usage and the quality of the incoming water) before it will need to be replaced.
